Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York
2018 WORKSPACE RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Each year, Baxter St at CCNY invites
emerging lens-based artists living in New York City to apply for the Baxter St at CCNY Workspace Residency
Program. This residency offers lens-based artists much-needed workspace in
New York City as well as access to the Baxter St at CCNY community and
Entering its 12th year, the Baxter St at CCNY Workspace
Residency Program provides participating artists with three (3) months of free
access to B&W and Color darkrooms and digital workstations. The Baxter St at CCNY Workspace Residency Program is made possible by generous support from the
New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo
and the New York State Legislature; The Jerome Foundation; public funds from
the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City
Council; Fujifilm; and Kodak.
Benefits of the Workspace Residency:
Workspace: Residents receive three months of free access
to the Digital labs and B&W and Color Darkroom facilities at the
International Center of Photography, as well as the in-house Digital
Workstations at Baxter St.
Programs: Residents receive free admission to all 2018 Baxter St at CCNY events and a 10% discount on classes.
Stipend: Residents receive a monthly stipend of $1,000
during their three months of workspace access as well as donated material
Exhibition Opportunity: Dependent on funding, each
resident may receive a solo exhibition at Baxter St at CCNY after his or her
term of residency.
All artists currently residing in New York City who are working in photography
or lens-based art are eligible to apply. Please note that living accommodations
are not provided. Students must have completed their studies on or before
January 1, 2018 in order to be eligible to apply. Chosen Workspace Residents
MUST be New York City residents for the duration of the residency period. There
is no fee to apply.
A jury of art professionals will consider all eligible applications.
Work Sample: Provide a work
sample of 10 images (required, this can include installation shots) and up to 1 video (optional, maximum 3 minutes).
Intent: Provide a short paragraph
(maximum 300 words) addressing what you aim to accomplish during a Baxter St at CCNY Workspace
Residency, and how that time at Baxter St would most benefit your artistic
work and career goals.
Statement: Provide a brief,
one-paragraph artist statement (maximum 300 words).
CV: Provide a one-page artist’s resume.
References: Provide the
names and contact information for two references. These will not be seen by the
The competition is open to all residents 18 years or older who
are living in New York City. Baxter St at CCNY staff, Board members, previous Workspace
(or Darkroom Residency) Residents and their families are not eligible. Only lens-based
work will be considered.
The applicant certifies that the information contained in the
application, including all supporting documents and attachments, is true and
correct to the best of his or her knowledge. Any fraudulent statement made in
the application will be grounds for rejecting the application.
In entering the competition, artists grant Baxter St at CCNY
permission to reproduce their artwork for publicity and educational purposes. Notwithstanding
the foregoing, the applicant shall retain all copyright in the work which may
be held by the applicant.
Required Forms and
As part of the Baxter St at CCNY contracting process, the
artists selected and Baxter St at CCNY shall be asked to enter into contract
with Baxter St at CCNY for the duration of the residency.
