One of New York’s oldest not-for-profit arts organizations, Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York (CCNY) is a workspace for photographers and a center for the contemporary lens-based community, offering exhibitions, Conversations Series, workshops, an annual Zine & Photo Book Fair, Online Content, and a year-round Workspace Residency Program. Today, Baxter St at CCNY is a thriving base for a diverse community interested in both traditional and experimental directions in photography.
Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York 2025 Mid Career Artists Initiative
DESCRIPTION:
Baxter St is proud to announce an open call for mid-career lens-based artists. This new initiative supports those artists who fall in between the categories of emerging and established artists. This exhibition series will further Baxter St’s goal to foster cultures of belonging in the cultural sector by offering mid-career lens-based artists an opportunity to exhibit.
The Mid-career, Lens-based Artists Initiative is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
BENEFITS OF THE MID-CAREER- LENS-BASED ARTISTS INITIATIVE:
Stipend: $1,000. In addition to the stipend, residents will receive a production fee to realize their exhibition.
Solo Exhibition: Each awardee will be granted a solo exhibition at Baxter St at CCNY.
Public Programming: Participants will take part in a public artist conversation.
Mentorship: Participants will have a one-on-one meeting with a member of Baxter St’s Art Advisory Committee.
Social Media and Marketing: Baxter St will offer professional social media and marketing support for the artists' exhibitions as well as professional digital installation photos for the artists' portfolios.
ELIGIBILITY:
Eligible artists must reside in New York, have worked in the medium for 8+ years, not be represented by a major gallery, and not have had an NYC solo show within the past year.
APPLICATION MATERIALS NEEDED:
Work Sample: Provide a work sample of 10 images (required, this can include installation shots) and up to 1 video (optional, maximum 3 minutes).
Letter of Intent: Provide a short paragraph (maximum 300 words) with an exhibition proposal addressing what project you aim to realize as a solo exhibition at Baxter St and how the project would most benefit your artistic work and career goals.
Artist Statement: Provide a brief, one-paragraph artist statement (maximum 300 words).
CV: Provide a one-page artist’s resume.
SELECTION PROCESS:
A jury of art professionals will consider all eligible applications.
